Apple Pay and Google Pay in Latvian Casinos

Apple Pay and Google Pay are methods for paying with a bank card via smartphone: you hold your phone to a terminal or authorise a payment in the casino app. Major Latvian banks (Swedbank, SEB, Citadele, Luminor) support both services. In online casinos they simply act as shortcuts for quick payment with a linked card — there is no balance in Apple Pay or Google Pay as such; funds are debited from your bank account.

What Are Apple Pay and Google Pay

Apple Pay works on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac; Google Pay works on Android smartphones. You add a Visa or MasterCard card to the Wallet app (Apple) or Google Wallet, and when paying your phone transmits payment details without disclosing the card number to the merchant. You authorise the transaction with a fingerprint, Face ID or phone PIN.

In online casinos you select the Apple Pay or Google Pay icon in the cashier, the system opens a prompt on your phone, you confirm — and funds are debited from the card you linked in settings. This is not a separate e-wallet: if the card is a debit card, funds leave your bank account immediately; if it is a credit card, your balance increases.

How to Deposit at a Casino

  1. Add your Latvian bank card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet — see the instructions in your banking app or on the card issuer's website.
  2. Log in to your casino account and open the Cashier or Deposit section.
  3. Select the Apple Pay icon (on Apple devices) or Google Pay (on Android).
  4. Enter the deposit amount.
  5. Authorise the payment on your phone — with fingerprint, Face ID or passcode.
  6. Funds appear in your gaming account instantly or within a few minutes.

Minimum and maximum amounts depend on the casino's rules and your bank's limits. Fees may be charged by the casino or the card-issuing bank — check the cashier terms and your bank's tariffs.

How to Withdraw Winnings

Many casinos do not support withdrawal directly to Apple Pay or Google Pay: these services are designed for sending payments, not receiving them. If a withdrawal option exists, the system will return funds to the card from which the deposit was made. If such an option is unavailable, choose another method in the Withdrawal section — for example, a bank transfer to the same card or an e-wallet such as Skrill, Neteller, MiFinity.

Withdrawal steps (if the casino permits):

  1. Open the Withdrawal section.
  2. Select Apple Pay or Google Pay (if available) or enter your card details manually.
  3. Enter the amount.
  4. Confirm the request.

The casino may require identity verification before your first withdrawal.

Verification and Security

Casinos are obliged to verify a player's identity before making a payout — this is a requirement of international anti-money laundering rules. You will be asked to upload a scan of your passport or Latvian identity document, as well as proof of address (utility bill, bank statement). Sometimes a selfie with the document or a screenshot of your bank cashier showing the card number (first and last four digits) is required.

Apple Pay and Google Pay protect card data through tokenisation: when paying, the casino receives a one-time code rather than the card number. This reduces the risk of data leakage, but does not release the casino from the obligation to encrypt transactions (look for HTTPS and an SSL certificate on the site). Check that the payment page displays a padlock in the address bar — a sign of a secure connection.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Fast deposits — authorise payment on your phone in seconds Withdrawal often unavailable: you will need to choose another method
No need to enter card details on the casino site — data protected by tokenisation Works only with cards supported by your bank: check the list in the Wallet or Google Wallet app
Support from major Latvian banks: Swedbank, SEB, Citadele, Luminor The bank may decline a payment to a casino without a Latvian licence — the decision is made by the issuing bank
No need to register a separate wallet or account — use your existing card Fees and limits are set by the bank: check your tariffs

What to Watch Out For

Legal status. Casinos from the rankings are international platforms without a licence from the State Revenue Service of Latvia (VID). Under Latvian law, participating in online gambling organised without such a licence is prohibited; the fine for a player is from 70 to 350 euros. VID blocks access to sites of unlicensed operators. Read more about regulation in the Latvian licence section.

Payment blocking. The bank may refuse a transaction if the recipient is a gambling site without a Latvian licence. This is the bank's decision, not Apple's or Google's. If a payment fails, try another card, contact your bank to clarify the reason, or choose an alternative method — Revolut, Paysera, e-wallets or cryptocurrency.

Checking limits. The bank sets daily and monthly limits on card payments, including via Apple Pay and Google Pay. If the amount exceeds the limit, the payment will be declined. Limits can be changed in internet banking or the banking app — some banks require a branch visit to raise the limit.

Documents for withdrawal. Even if you deposited via Apple Pay or Google Pay, the casino may require a card scan or bank statement for withdrawal to confirm account ownership. Prepare documents in advance, especially if you are planning a large withdrawal.

No regulatory protection. Disputes with international casinos are not handled by VID: the regulator has no jurisdiction over offshore operators. You can contact the casino's support or the authority that issued the platform's licence (for example, the Curaçao regulator), but resolution is not guaranteed. VID's register of self-excluded persons does not apply to sites without a Latvian licence: if you have entered yourself in the register, an international casino is not obliged to check it and may accept your registration.

Fees. Apple and Google do not charge users a fee for the payment itself, but the bank may levy a percentage for transactions with gambling sites or for payments in foreign currency (if the casino operates in dollars or cryptocurrency and your card is in euros). Read your bank's tariffs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Withdraw Winnings to Apple Pay or Google Pay?

Most casinos do not support withdrawal to these services: Apple Pay and Google Pay are designed for sending payments, not receiving them. If a withdrawal option exists, funds will return to the card from which the deposit was made. If not — choose a bank transfer, e-wallet or another method from the list in the Withdrawal section.

Is It Safe to Pay via Apple Pay and Google Pay at Casinos?

Yes, provided the casino uses HTTPS and an SSL certificate. Apple Pay and Google Pay do not transmit the card number to the merchant — instead, a one-time token is generated. But security also depends on the casino: choose platforms licensed by a reputable regulator (Curaçao, Malta, Gibraltar) and check other players' reviews. Read the full list of evaluation criteria on the methodology page.

Why Does the Bank Decline a Payment to a Casino?

The bank may block a transaction if the recipient is a gambling site without a VID licence. This is the bank's decision under its risk management policy. Try another card, contact your bank for clarification, or use an alternative method — Revolut, Paysera, Skrill, Neteller or cryptocurrency. See the full range of payment methods in the payments section.

Which Latvian Banks Support Apple Pay and Google Pay?

Swedbank, SEB, Citadele and Luminor support both services. Check the list of cards available for adding in the Wallet app (for Apple Pay) or Google Wallet (for Google Pay) — not all of a bank's cards may be compatible.

Remember: gambling is permitted only to persons over 18 years of age. Play responsibly and within your means. If you feel that gambling is getting out of control, seek help or use VID's register of self-excluded persons (applies only to platforms licensed in Latvia).
