Online casinos with euro (EUR) for players from Latvia

The euro (EUR) has been Latvia's national currency since 1 January 2014. Playing at a casino in euros eliminates conversion during deposits and withdrawals if your bank account is held in euros: you see stakes and balance in your familiar currency, and expenses match exactly the amounts in your bank statement. For players from Latvia, this is the standard scenario that removes exchange rate differences and conversion fees.

International casinos from the rankings usually offer several currencies, including the euro. The currency choice is made during registration or in account settings; it typically cannot be changed later. If a casino does not support the euro, you'll have to play in dollars or cryptocurrency — with conversion at every stage.

The euro (EUR) is the currency of the European Union and the sole official currency of Latvia since 1 January 2014. Before that, the country used the lats, which was withdrawn from circulation when the euro was adopted. For residents of Latvia, the euro is the natural choice at online casinos: bank accounts, salaries, savings and everyday expenses are denominated in this currency.

Why the euro is convenient for players from Latvia

When the casino account currency matches your bank account currency, the conversion stage disappears. You deposit funds at the casino for an amount that is debited from your card without recalculation; you withdraw winnings, and your account receives exactly as many euros as stated in the request. Exchange rates, spreads and bank or payment system fees for conversion do not apply.

Stakes, jackpots, tournament prizes and table limits are displayed in euros. You immediately understand how much you're spending and how much you've won, without mentally converting dollars or other currencies. Your card statement and casino transaction history show the same amounts — convenient for expense tracking.

The majority of international online casinos featured in the rankings support the euro as one of the main currencies alongside US dollars and pounds sterling. Check the currency list before registering: it's usually indicated in the 'Cashier' section or in the site's terms.

When the euro may be disadvantageous

If a casino does not support the euro, you'll have to choose another currency — most often US dollars (USD). In this case, every deposit and every withdrawal goes through conversion. The bank or payment service applies its own exchange rate, which may differ from the interbank rate by several per cent; this difference remains with the intermediary.

When playing in dollars, the casino balance is displayed in USD, whilst your account shows euros. You won't see exact correspondence between the stake and the debited amount; final expenses depend on the exchange rate at the time of the transaction. If the euro-to-dollar rate changes between deposit and withdrawal, you may receive slightly more or slightly less than expected, even with a zero game result.

Some international casinos work only with cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Tether (USDT). Here conversion happens twice: euro → cryptocurrency when buying, cryptocurrency → euro when selling. Added to the exchange rate difference is volatility: the BTC or ETH rate can change by tens of per cent within a few days, and winnings in cryptocurrency may turn into a loss after conversion to euros, or vice versa. More about the risks in the article on cryptocurrency payments.

How to choose an account currency at a casino

During registration, most casinos offer a choice of currency from a list: EUR, USD, GBP, cryptocurrencies and others. This choice is usually final — you cannot change the account currency after creating a profile. If you make a mistake, you'll have to open a new account (if the casino rules permit multiple accounts) or accept the conversion.

Check which currencies your bank or payment service accepts. MasterCard and Visa cards issued by Latvian banks (Swedbank, SEB, Citadele, Luminor) are denominated in euros. E-wallets Skrill, Neteller, MiFinity and services Revolut, Paysera support multi-currency accounts: you can hold euros and other currencies on one balance, but conversion within the wallet still uses the service's exchange rate.

If the casino offers euros, choose euros — this eliminates an extra step and makes accounting transparent. The exception is when you deliberately play in cryptocurrency and are prepared to manage exchange rate risks.

Legal status and particulars for players from Latvia

The euro as a currency does not affect a casino's legal status. Online casinos are legal in Latvia only with a licence from the State Revenue Service of Latvia (VID) for interactive gambling. Since 1 April 2026, all supervision and licensing functions have been transferred to VID; the list of licensed operators is published on VID's website.

Casinos from the site rankings are international (offshore) platforms that do not hold a Latvian VID licence. Playing on such sites involves risks: possible domain blocking by the regulator, bank refusal to process a payment, absence of protection under Latvian law. The register of self-excluded persons maintained by VID does not extend to offshore casinos. More details in the section on licensing and regulation in Latvia.

The casino account currency does not change these risks. Euros, dollars or cryptocurrency — the choice affects only payment convenience and the presence of conversion, but not the operator's legal status.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the account currency after registering at a casino?

In most casinos, the account currency is set during registration and cannot be changed. If you chose dollars instead of euros, you'll have to either accept conversion on every deposit and withdrawal, or create a new account (if casino rules permit this; many operators prohibit multiple accounts per person). Clarify the rules with customer support before making your first deposit.

Does the bank charge a fee for casino payments in euros?

The bank may charge a fee for the transaction itself (for example, for using a card online or for a transfer), but not for currency conversion if both the casino account and bank account are denominated in euros. When playing in dollars or cryptocurrency, a conversion fee is added along with the difference between buying and selling rates. Check the tariffs in your banking service agreement; they vary between different banks.

Which casinos support the euro?

Most international casinos oriented towards the European market include the euro in their list of available currencies. You can check this on the 'Cashier' page or in the FAQ section of the casino site before registering. See the current list of casinos with euros in the rankings; the currency filter helps quickly select suitable platforms.

Do I need to pay tax on winnings in euros?

Tax on gambling winnings depends on where the casino is licensed. Operators licensed in Latvia pay the tax of 15% themselves (this is the operator's tax, not the player's); player winnings at Latvian casinos are not taxed. Offshore casinos operate under the laws of their country of registration; the obligation to declare winnings to the Latvian tax service depends on the amount and source. Obtain advice on the taxation of winnings from offshore sources from a tax consultant or from VID.

Gambling is entertainment, not a way to earn money. Play responsibly, set limits on deposits and playing time. If control over gambling is lost, seek help from specialists. Gambling is permitted only for persons over 18 years of age.
